Cooper's Beach Camp

 Last week we went to camp at Cooper's Beach. Tanner and I found a dead shark on the beach. I loved going down the water slide and doing the confidence course.

Handwriting Sample

At the end of this term  we did our handwriting sample. We had to use  our capital and lower case letters and write a sentence about our science Fair .
What I like about my handwriting is that it is different.
What I could do better is use my finger spaces.

Waitangi Digital Learning

On Tuesday the year 4s went to Waitangi to do digital learning using Scratch and unplugged activities.  My favourite activity was Scratch because it was interesting.

koru Art

We made koru art with Whaea Rose.  We made our koru using foam and stamping ink onto paper.
My koru represents all of the people who went to war for New Zealand.
I really like the colours and shapes in my koru art.

Balloon Hovercraft

QUESTION

How does a hovercraft hover?
HYPOTHESIS

I predict that the disc will move.

EQUIPMENT 
AND MATERIALS:
Balloon
Disc
Bottle cap
PROCEDURE:
Step 1: Glue the bottle cap over the CD hole.
Step 2:  Blow up the balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end so no air comes out.
Step 3: Stretch the balloon over the end of the bottle cap.
Step 4: Open up the cap and place the CD on the surface.
Step 5: Untwist balloon and let go.
OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:
The disc moved smoothly across the table.

CONCLUSION:
The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the CD and reduces the friction across the surface.

Speech

We have been learning how to write speeches.  My topic was Military. We had to present these in front of the class. I think I did a good job.

MILITARY
Do you know New Zealand needs help from the Military. Every country has a military to help protect their country or other countries. The Military in New Zealand has 3 types, the army, the air force and the navy.

Firstly, our military go over to other
countries to help, for things like earthquakes and volcanoes. They also go to other countries to help for little wars.

Secondly, the air force shoots down planes with poisonous gases. The Air force picks up people who need help.

Finally, Navy help save boats on fire. The Navy will try and catch Pirates.

The USA has a lot of military men. Military can go and help with attacks, like the mosque attack. I think the military is important to help people around the world.

For maths this week we read a book called one is a snail and 10 is a crab . We then worked in groups to crate our own version. My book is called 1 is a fish, 10 s a caterpillar. Here is my book. I hope you like it.

a moon lander

For science we made a Moon rover lander using only a paper cup, paper, cellotape and straws.  We were given the task of making our Moon rover land softly onto our Moon landscape so that our marsh-mellow astronauts did not fly out.
What I like best about my Moon rover is that it is cool.

What I needed to modify on my Moon lander rover was to put another staple in the flap to hold it tight.

One thing  I learned about landing on the Moon was that if you make your moon lander well, it can land on a bumpy surface.

We wrote poems about colours. I had to write a poem about red because that is the colour of my house group.


Environmental Writing

We sketched our bean plants that we grew in class. We then wrote words around the outside to describe the bean plant. We had to use these words to write a piece of descriptive writing. We then cut out our picture and glued it on to your writing. Here is my writing.
